“Your nervous system cannot tell the difference between an imagined experience and a ‘real’ experience.” ~Maxwell Maltz

Hypnosis vs. hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention. This can be achieved by reaching a state of deep relaxation.

Hypnosis is a state of reverie or visualization/ideation, in total awareness. We can hear sounds, open our eyes, and even walk. It is a state of increased focus to thoughts that we want to uncover from our innermost being.

We decide what to say, what not, how to say it. We can choose when to come out of the hypnotic state. During hypnosis, we can remember forgotten events, reprogram behaviors, enhance our abilities and performance levels. We can obtain enough focused awareness to relieve and/or manage pain. It is the most rapid and effective psychology tool to correct behaviors and live a healthy life.

What does a hypnotherapist do?

He or she is a certified professional with a deep understanding and educational knowledge in the mental health field. Most experienced hypnotherapist have an advanced college degree in psychology, medicine, social work, or other sciences.

The hypnotherapist or hypnotist uses guided relaxation to achieve a heightened state of awareness or trance. This heightened level of awareness can help many clients face and cope with challenges, bring awareness to past events (regression), help manage certain unwanted behaviors, and even control pain.

How much of our brain do we consciously use?

According to past beliefs, humans only use about 10% of their brain capacity— Through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) it has been proven that brain activity takes up more than said 10% area of the brain during any given moment.

What if we could tap into whatever percentage of the brain we don't use?

The brain is the organ associated with our mind and consciousness but what about the deeper layers of thought, those which we don’t realize are automatically taking place during every millisecond of our lives?

The subconscious mind or the preconscious mind is the accessible information you are aware of and can use as memory recall. Then there’s a much deeper level, the unconscious, where we store primitive, instinctual wishes as well as information that is not easily accessible. This unconscious depth of the mind stores beliefs, patterns, subjective maps of reality formed from the very beginning of our lives, and are the driving force of our behaviors and current thought patterns. Ultimate relaxation or trance achieved with a hypnotist will help you find the power to get to know yourself better and even make changes.

Can I be hypnotized

Seven out of 10 people are easily hypnotized. Some individuals may require more than one session to become totally relaxed and enjoy the hypnosis experience, while others will never be able to reach the relaxation state that enables a person to accept the implantation of suggestions.

How does hypnotherapy work to quit smoking or to control weight issues?

The suggestions given by a professional hypnotherapist work on the part of the brain that generates automatic thoughts. In the case of addictions, whether it is smoking, unhealthy eating habits, and/or many other addictive undesirable behaviors, the goal of the hypnotherapist is to bring unhealthy issues to the surface. Once these thoughts or emotions are revealed, the main objective is to replace them with positive and healthy thoughts and behaviors.

How important is your comfort level with your hypnotherapist?

Prior to being hypnotized, clients fill out paperwork establishing the parameters of the hypnosis sessions. One of the parameters is the importance of confidentiality and also your role as an active participant in your well-being. In order to feel comfortable and understood by the hypnotherapist, it is important to create a professional and therapeutic relationship. This will promote trust during sessions and motivate the resolution of the addressed issues.
